Background of the study
Online political mobilization has emerged as a key driver of civic engagement, enabling grassroots movements to rally support and initiate change. In Kaduna, grassroots movements have increasingly embraced digital platforms to mobilize citizens, disseminate information, and encourage active civic participation (Umar, 2023). This study investigates how online mobilization strategies employed by grassroots movements influence overall civic engagement. Digital tools, such as social media campaigns, email newsletters, and online petitions, facilitate direct communication with constituents and create opportunities for collective action. The research examines how these digital mobilization efforts overcome traditional barriers to civic engagement, such as geographic limitations and resource constraints, while also addressing challenges related to digital misinformation and engagement fatigue (Adeniran, 2024). By analyzing case studies and collecting empirical data from participant surveys, the study aims to uncover the critical success factors and obstacles associated with online political mobilization. The findings will offer valuable insights into how grassroots movements can optimize digital strategies to foster long-term civic participation and strengthen democratic processes (Bello, 2025).
Statement of the problem
Grassroots movements in Kaduna face significant challenges in translating online political mobilization into sustained civic engagement. Although digital platforms provide powerful tools for organizing and mobilizing citizens, factors such as misinformation, low digital literacy, and inconsistent engagement strategies limit the conversion of online support into tangible civic action (Umar, 2023). This gap hampers the overall impact of grassroots initiatives and undermines efforts to strengthen democratic participation. Moreover, the absence of standardized digital engagement frameworks further complicates the effective use of online mobilization strategies. This study seeks to address these challenges by critically examining the obstacles to successful online mobilization and proposing strategies to enhance civic engagement among grassroots movements (Adeniran, 2024).
